Why I’m Doing All the Things

So, this time last week (Sunday night) I was crying in the kitchen because I felt way in over my head and completely overwhelmed. My patient, caring husband was like, "why are you doing all these things?" and I had to take a breath and remind myself of the answer to that question (he was giving me a great taste of my own medicine).

As a result, this week I've taken a step way back, doubled the length of time I gave myself to do a few things on my to-do list, and reflected on what I love about my life and why I do what I do. Here's what I've come up with:

💖 I'm running a business because I can't help myself and it's fun and I like to call the shots and make money doing it.

💖 I make art because I love bringing my visions into reality.

💖 I have a day job because it's actually pretty low-impact on my personal life (working from home is amazing, thanks COVID!), I'm good at it, and I so appreciate the steady income and health insurance.

💖 I had a baby because it sounded like a good idea at the time and it turned out to be the best decision I ever made. That boy inspires me every day to make/do more of what I love and enjoy the crap out of life.

💖 I started a podcast because Chico is a goldmine of talent that needs a spotlight on it.

💖 I'm starting a group coaching program because I see so many artists suffering because they can't find the time or energy to bring their ideas to life, and I've figured out how to do that for myself and I want to share that knowledge to help others have an easier journey than I did.

It's all a little crazy and a little messy but if I step back, I'm actually doing all of it in stride and frankly, impressing the shit out of my own damn self. As long as I don't get all worked up with my own self-imposed, ridiculous expectations, it's all pretty fun to watch it unfold as seamlessly as it does!

Which brings me to a lesson in the guidebook I just finished writing for the aforementioned group coaching program: MAKE IT EASY. Where can you let yourself off the hook for things that only matter in your head? Extend your self-imposed deadlines? Make it more fun? We get so in our heads about the "right way" to do things that it kills all the joy we're supposed to be feeling as we strive for better selves and better lives.

So for this week's anti-industrial/consumer/capitalist rebel move, I urge you: go easy mode on something you do on the reg that you don't like (anymore) or (maybe used to) look forward to. Let me know what you came up with and if it made a difference!

Happy Making!

P.S. You don't even have to join the Art with Ease group program to benefit from all the work I've put in to the materials for it! The Guidebook is available NOW. It's just $20 for a digital download (intro price, subject to change 👀) so snag a copy and start unblocking your creative self and bring that dream project into reality!
