Indian Land
9X12 inches
Acrylic and Tracing Paper on Canvas Board
The calls of the peacocks of Bidwell Park are well-known if you’re a regular visitor, and every time I’ve seen Mr. Peacock he’s in this stretch of the bike path along Centennial Avenue. This piece was titled very deliberately; it calls to attention the land we occupy which was taken from the Mechoopda Maidu tribe, as well as the bizarre consequences of colonialism that include bringing Indian Peacocks to Northern California.
