Pond Dweller
18x18 inches
Mixed media on varnished, gallery-wrapped canvas
Inspired by the flumes in Paradise and Magalia in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. My husband grew up very close by to these flumes and my parents ended up living on the same street he grew up on and therefore we all have memories of meandering down the winding road to the flumes for a lovely stroll in the woods. The red dirt and clear water kept the plants lush and it was always full of frogs and salamanders and the occasional otter. The swirling paint references the circle of life and the seasons, and the centrality of water in the lifecycle of our planet.
