Wyeka Rising Original Artwork
12x12 inches
Acrylic and tracking paper on varnished, gallery-wrapped canvas
"Wyeka" is an indigenous name for Mount Shasta, the gorgeous Northern California volcano I based this painting on. And the Osprey is one of my favorite raptors - I adore their coloration and how over-the-top fierce they look! This painting features layers of paint and paper and pencil and an iridescent gold sun rising up from behind the volcano. As Californians we are no strangers to rebirth in fire, from volcanoes to wildfires, and this painting serves as a reminder of what we've come through, a warning of what lies dormant, and what opportunities for rebirth we can initiate on our own
